Getting Involved

There are several ways for you to get involved in the Pagan community, especially in the cyberhood.

Volunteer Your Time

This is just as true for us as it is for everyone else. You don't have to be Christian to have a concience. Look in your area for worthy social and environmental programs.

Network With Other Pagans

If you are lucky enough to live in an area that has a known pagan community, get out and get to know other people with beliefs similar to your own.
If you can't find other people in your area or aren't ready to come out of the broom closet yet, you can find people to converse with on the web as long as you use that good 'ole common sense. You can get to know people without giving them personal information.
You don't have to give your your real name, home phone number or address in order to join the crowd in a chat room, or join one of many online clubs. Yahoo, for one, hosts many Wiccan, witchcraft and Pagan topic clubs. I belong to a few myself.
For unmoderated chat, you might try one of Yahoo's Pagan rooms. From their list of all rooms, go to the Religion & Beliefs section. Click there, then you will have a choice of different belief systems, Paganism will be one of those. There are usually a few different rooms going at any given time, plus several clubs in the next section over. But like I said, these chat rooms are not moderated and fundamentalist Christians do come in at times and argue with whoever they can bait into it. Everybody knows how to find Yahoo.com and get to the chat area, right?
For moderated chat in a less hectic setting, you could try delphi, they have a few different Pagan rooms, such as Astarte's Pagan Realm. I've also enjoyed Peace's Spiritual Garden.

Make a Donation

This is one of those areas where you have to use your own judgement. Of course, there are always local organizations like the SPCA, the American Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels. All of those are well-known, worthwile organizations that are happy to have your donations of time and money.

Write a Letter or Sign a Petition

Organizations like the ones mentioned on my Women's Issues page are just the tip of the iceberg. You may have local issues that deserve your attention. Is your local school district planning to ignore the law against prayer at school functions? Does your Congressperson vote like a scoundrel? Let them know! You can usually find the phone numbers and addresses to reach your political representatives in your local phone book and newspaper.
It is your right to let your representatives know what you believe should be done.
You can also write letters to your local newspaper, radio station and television channels asking for coverage of issues and events. (Or call, fax and email them.
You'll all have to find those addresses and phone numbers on your own though, that is just too much for me to do here.
